The Public Utility Board was told that plans for the city’s wastewater treatment plant are being finalized with engineering firm Burns and McDonnell, and construction is expected to begin in late June or early July, with an estimated construction timeline of about 18 months. The board document notes the money for the project is budgeted.
Board members were also told staff are evaluating what work city employees could complete to lower the overall project cost, including tasks that traditionally are contracted out. The board did not vote on a construction contract at the meeting; the update was presented as unfinished business and next steps include finalizing plans and determining scope for in-house work.
