The Town of Isle La Motte Selectboard agreed Jan. 14 to add a dedicated category in its accounting system to track flood-related expenses and insurance payments separately, a step Treasurer Mary LaBrecque said auditors recommended to ensure accurate budgeting.
LaBrecque told board members that auditors had advised creating a specific flood-expense category in NEMRC so reimbursements and out-of-pocket costs could be tracked independently of other administration line items. The board directed the town’s flood group to develop estimates for costs that exceed insurance coverage so those amounts can be considered for the 2026 budget.
The board set a flood-group meeting for Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2026 at 2:30 p.m. and scheduled the final budget meeting the same day from 4:00–6:00 p.m. Chair Peter Brzozowy confirmed those dates and said the flood-group calculations will inform any budget increases above insurance proceeds. The meeting adjourned after routine business at 8:11 p.m.
