County narrows public-defender options, signs courtroom-technology transfers

Nemaha County saw several developments related to indigent defense and court technology during 2023.
In March the board approved a memorandum of understanding with the Administrative Office of the Courts and Probation for courtroom-technology transfer. Commissioners reviewed public-defender resignations and applications through the spring; the board accepted a termination of the existing Kollasch Law public-defender contract effective April 23, 2023 and later selected Oluseyi Olowolafe for the position at an annual salary of $55,000.
The county also approved change-order reviews and oversaw contracts with Courtroom technology vendors (CentralSquare/CTI and others) as part of a multi-step upgrade. The transfers and MOU were recorded in the March minutes.
