The Westfir City Council voted unanimously to waive the $200 portal rental fee for a May 30 ribbon-cutting tied to a recent Oregon Scenic Bikeway nomination.
Connor Nolan of Traveling County, the tourism organization contracted through the county, told the council the event is primarily a media celebration and thanked local partners. "This event that we'd be hosting, May 30 would be a ribbon cutting to kinda celebrate this nomination," Nolan said while describing plans for brief introductions and a photo op at the kiosk. Nolan estimated about 40 attendees and said the group may borrow the city's PA system if needed.
Council members asked practical questions about staging, restroom access and whether the bridge or portal would need temporary closure; staff and Nolan agreed the bridge would remain open and the event would center on the kiosk area. The council moved to waive the application fee and approved the motion. The waiver was handled as part of the event application review; Nolan said the group will provide RSVPs and coordination materials as the event approaches.
