Nemaha County reorganizes for 2023, elects leadership and fills key posts

At the Jan. 5 organizational meeting the Nemaha County Board elected Bryan Mellage chairman and Mike Hall vice chairman, approved a slate of county appointments and designated the Nemaha County Herald and the county website for official postings.
The Nemaha County Board of Commissioners opened its Jan. 5, 2023 meeting with routine organizational business and a series of unanimous votes to set the county’s leadership and representative assignments for the year.
By roll-call vote the board elected Commissioner Bryan Mellage chairman for 2023 and Commissioner Mike Hall as vice chairman. County Clerk Diane Johnson presided at the organizational portion of the meeting and recorded the votes as required by state open-meeting law.
The board appointed Jeff Boden as county surveyor for 2023 and reappointed Mainelli Wagner & Associates to perform highway superintendent duties. It named the Nemaha County Herald as the county’s official newspaper for legal postings and designated the Nemaha County website (www.nemahacounty.ne.gov) as an official posting location for meeting notices and minutes. The actions were approved by motions recorded in the minutes and carried by roll-call votes.
The commissioners also made the year’s committee and liaison appointments for building and grounds, airport authority, Region V Services, SENDD and other local boards and entities. The meeting record shows each appointment by commissioner name and the office or commission they will represent, ensuring clear lines of contact for county business.
The board adjourned the session after approving routine claims and payroll for the period.
