Westfir water use rises year over year; wastewater E. coli readings return to permit levels

Bobby Archer presented the city’s water and wastewater operations for January 2025, reporting total water use of 717,200 gallons compared with 631,500 gallons for the same month last year and an average daily use of about 23,135 gallons. He attributed higher consumption in part to weather and said both water treatment sites were operating without major problems.
On wastewater, Archer reported totals of 144,733 gallons for January (down from 174,637 last year) and said E. coli readings returned to within permit after contractor Best Septic removed old sludge from the recirculation tank. “The numbers went back to almost normal,” Archer said. Council and staff noted the city received a reimbursable DEQ grant to develop a wastewater facilities plan and that a follow-up plan-of-action with DEQ and consultant Max is expected as part of permit compliance work.
