Visitor urges New Haven to promote Thermal Energy Networks in Enhanced Energy Plan

Susan Smiley of the Addison County Regional Planning Commission told the New Haven Planning Commission that Thermal Energy Networks (TEN) can deliver efficient, climate-friendly heating and cooling equitably to whole neighborhoods and recommended the town add specific language in the village-center section of the Enhanced Energy Plan.
Smiley agreed to provide suggested wording from the Vermont Community Thermal Networks website for the Commission’s consideration. Commissioners noted the Selectboard voted after a second public hearing on July 7 to approve the final draft of the Enhanced Energy Plan and place it before voters on August 11, 2026. Members emphasized the plan is a living document and may be amended as technologies and community priorities change.
