Resident requests state meeting on village wastewater options; commission to coordinate

At the March 9 meeting Susan Smiley shared correspondence she had with Lynnette Claudon, team leader for the Department of Environmental Conservation's Village Wastewater Solutions Committee, and proposed that Claudon meet with the Planning Commission and the Housing Committee to discuss small-scale community wastewater options.
Smiley pointed to existing examples in Addison County — community systems in Bristol and Addison and the Shoreham wastewater treatment facility — as relevant models because of similar soils and topography. "One of the outcomes of the ‘New Haven Come Together’ initiative is to explore septic and wastewater solutions," she said, and suggested inviting the DEC team leader to discuss viable options. The Zoning Administrator will coordinate a date for the meeting so that Planning Commission and Housing Committee members may hear from the state program and ask technical questions.
No firm recommendations or funding requests for a wastewater system were made at the March 9 meeting; the item was recorded as a request to meet with the state subject-matter team.
