Warrington Grade School unveils 'Passport to Reading' with local-business support

Warrington Grade School staff and students presented a new 'Passport to Reading' program to the Warrenton‑Hammond SD 30 board, describing monthly reading challenges that earn students tokens redeemable with participating local businesses. "Our main goal was really to get more books in kids' hands and get more kids back to reading and exciting again," said Leanne Donovan, who helped roll out the program.
Site council member and school counselor Jane Hassler said the passports are intended to create regular incentives for reading and to build school‑community partnerships; staff arranged T‑shirts sold at cost and solicited goods from Arnie's Cafe, Main Street Market, El Compadre and Dairy Maid to supply monthly rewards. Several students spoke about favorite books during the presentation, and family liaison Courtney Conant thanked local businesses for supporting the rollout. The board received the presentation and had no objections to the program moving forward as presented.
