Westfir council plans mailer and outreach after high wildfire-hazard rating

The Chair told the council that Lane County and the Oregon State Fire Marshal rated Westfir as high wildfire hazard in the wildland–urban interface and described an existing packet of defensible-space guidance. The Chair said the city contractor completed brush-clearing work at the wastewater plant and staff proposed continuing public-property work; council agreed the private-property portion requires outreach: "We need to send that out to everybody in Westfir," the Chair said.
Staff and council members discussed mailing logistics and content length. Because the full packet is large, staff proposed a shortened two-page black-and-white mailer that points residents to more information online. The staff member estimated about 130 water-system accounts and about 160–165 homes overall for a mailing list; council agreed to have staff assemble the mailing, provide address lists for registered property owners, and help with stuffing envelopes. Council also discussed a requirement to post visible address signs for emergency responders and indicated they will investigate cost and grant or volunteer options for producing signs.
