Residents report illegal fireworks; Fire Chief says sheriff is the right contact

During the public-comment portion of the Select Board meeting, Elaine Martel reported illegal fireworks activity on Alpine Drive. Fire Chief Billy Austin told attendees that the Fire Department has no jurisdiction over illegal fireworks enforcement and Mark Turco said the town will advise contacting the sheriff for enforcement action.
Kathy Leber asked whether the property was a rental and said landlords should be made aware if the activity is illegal; Mark Turco asked for information so the Select Board could follow up and requested the item be noted in the town Newsflash and Chit Chat so residents are aware of enforcement options.
The board did not take enforcement action during the meeting but said it would be in touch with the complainant to identify the property.
