City engineer reports 50% design for rail coordination; council to pursue federal waterline funding

City engineer (S3) briefed the council on infrastructure progress, reporting the design for the project is approximately 50% complete and staff are arranging coordination meetings with BNSF: “They're meeting with BNSF a year later this week… our design is 50% down.” The engineer said funding documents are expected by the end of March to advance the project.
Chair (S1) said he and staff (including Jake and Tyler from SMGA) will pursue congressional appropriations and meet with Senator Mike Rounds' office to discuss a waterline project extending to the interstate. “If you have a valid project, I will go to bat for you,” Chair (S1) said relaying the senator's invitation during a prior meeting; the council directed staff to continue design and grant pursuit work.
Council members also raised a site‑management concern about a pile of dirt at a retention pond that has caused runoff into a nearby field; staff said they would follow up with the contractor to confirm removal or relocation of the materials.
