Commissioner to seek resolution supporting IDB nomination for Opportunity Zone

Commissioner Perkins told the commission he would ask for a resolution to provide a letter of support from the county to the Industrial Development Board (IDB) for a nomination of a Chilton County Opportunity Zone area. He explained Opportunity Zones are federal designations tied to capital-gains tax treatments and that the county’s proposed area lies primarily inside the Clanton city limits.
"So, basically, this is just a letter of our support for the IDB in their nomination to have that opportunity zone selected by the governor," Perkins said. He recommended the commission endorse the IDB’s nomination so the governor can consider it.
Perkins said the area being proposed is smaller than the prior designation from 2018 and is concentrated near Exits 208–212 toward Clanton and an area near Lomax on Highway 31. Commissioners agreed the city had taken the lead on assembling support and that the county’s backing would be helpful in the nomination process.
