Roads chief outlines summer chip-seal projects, $160,000 supplemental spend and Deer Run access request

Sean Hughes, representing the Daggett County road department, updated commissioners on a slate of summer road work including Jarvis Ranch Road, Magwater Pines/Valley, Dump Road, Birch Creek, Lower Airport Road and Skyview. "We had, I think, a 160,000 extra. And we used it in asphalt and the chip seal," Hughes said, adding the department plans additional hot-mix patching this summer.
Hughes also discussed Deer Run, where the Forest Service will not work past a gated area but indicated its engineer might accept road base laid before the gate to improve the approach. Hughes said he would follow up with Scott Sowers and the Forest Service and seek any needed approvals if the county pursues a paid work agreement with the agency.
