Mayor Knight defends RV-dump plan; commission schedules Board of Adjustments meeting for June 22

Mayor Knight said the town has financing in place for the proposed RV dump and urged the commission to set the appeal for quick resolution. "The $877,000 has been set aside for the RV dump with a 1% interest," the mayor said, adding that "the annual payments would be $33,982" and that the RV portion of that payment "is only going to be $6,700 a year." She also noted that the KOA currently charges $25 per dump for non-park users and that "the RV dump would only need 272 dump visits per year to cover the loan repayment."

Commissioners spent the bulk of the discussion on process and public notice. County legal counsel (S6) reminded the group that an appellant has 30 days to file and that a public hearing requires 10 days' notice under county statute: "It's 10 days," the counsel said. The board agreed to try to convene the Board of Adjustments as soon as possible; Chair (S1) and others proposed Monday, June 22 at 10:00 a.m., subject to confirmation of all board members' availability. Staff (S4) offered to post notices and distribute handouts; commissioners discussed outreach options (direct mailing, newsletter, Facebook) to counter misinformation in the community.

Next steps: the commission directed staff to confirm availability of Board of Adjustments members and to post the meeting notice consistent with statutory timing; if a public hearing is required, staff will post with 10 days' notice and prepare the record for the hearing.
