City Administrator Max Baker told the Lowell City Council on Oct. 21 that the city’s sediment-basin project remains on hold due to the federal government shutdown. Baker said no updates have been received from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and that he is not comfortable moving forward with spending through the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers while project financing is uncertain.
Baker said the project is still active but “not progressing to the next stage” until federal agencies provide clarity. The council was not asked to take action; Baker indicated the money for the project will eventually be spent but staff want to avoid interim callouts or commitments without confirmed funding.
