City reports stepped-up code enforcement and a property abated for fire-hazard vegetation

City Administrator Max Baker updated the Council on code-enforcement efforts, saying the City published code sections 6.01 and 6.05 (abandoned vehicles and parking regulations) in the Bridge newsletter and will coordinate with Oak Ridge Police Department on education before enforcement. "Baker emphasized that education would come before enforcement, with warnings giving people time to correct issues before citations or towing," the minutes state.
Baker also reported that Public Works abated a property with noxious vegetation deemed a fire hazard after giving the owner extra time to address the problem, and that letters were recently sent to property owners about nuisance and debris accumulation. He said responses from owners have been generally good and that staff will follow up the coming Friday. The Council received this as an administrative update; no motion or vote was taken.
