Commission finalizes Yard of the Week program refinements and promotes Arbor Day planting

The Commission finalized refinements to the Yard of the Week and Year contest. Changes include replacing engraved rocks with yard signs (to be placed behind the sidewalk per ordinance), weekly winners receiving a certificate, mayor’s letter, gift card and sign, and a $100 gift certificate for Yard of the Year. Zones were fixed for the season, photos will be required with nominations, and staff responsibilities were assigned: Kelly will design the new signs, Community Services Director Eric Howes will procure them, and Administrative Assistant Liz Schwab will update forms and circulate weekly memos.
Commissioners also promoted volunteer events: an Arbor Day tree planting at Steed Park on April 24 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM with 15 trees planned and a May 16 Steed Park event that will include DWR-coordinated wildlife and fishing education. Youth Commission participation was encouraged.
