Kristen Haley, public health education liaison, told the executive team that prevention workthis year depends heavily on partnerships with state and local agencies, naming the Washington State Department of Health and the Traffic Safety Commission as key collaborators. She described an 18‑month national training that includes multiple states and explained the fatal case review process used to examine impaired‑driving fatalities and identify system changes that might prevent future deaths.
Haley outlined program challenges — the Healthy Youth Survey requires agreement across four agencies and partner funding cuts have forced staff to absorb additional responsibilities. On cannabis priorities she said the agency is restarting a packaging and labeling workgroup (industry, prevention and public health) and keeping high‑THC policy conversations active. “Our goal is to lay it all out on the table and say, here are all of the challenges we see with packaging and labeling,” she said, adding the intention is to identify solutions stakeholders can accept and then pass them to the rules team.
Haley also noted a newly created Washington‑specific pamphlet on safe cannabis use, developed in partnership with the Department of Health and tailored for retailers.
