Dr. Carlos Ladore, a family medicine physician from Vicksburg who said he works with the Hattiesburg Clinic Hypertension Center, appeared before the Senate Health Committee and was recommended for appointment to the State Board of Medical Licensure. A senator moved to advise and consent, and the committee voted in favor.
"The main goal of the medical licensing board is to protect our citizens, you know, patients first, and that's what we're striving to do," Ladore said, urging the committee to support measures that let the board act more promptly on complaints. Ladore said he has attended three board meetings since his nomination, that he was nominated to replace the late Dr. Tom Joyner, and described his aims as both protecting patients and supporting physicians who meet credentialing standards. He also asked legislators to consider passage of the "medical practice act" to align procedures with other professional boards.
A senator who spoke in support praised Ladore's engagement in public policy and moved the committee to advise and consent. The chair called the vote and "the ayes have it," approving the appointment. The committee did not record a roll-call vote tally in the transcript.
