Vice Chair Marie Jewett told the board Northup will target congressional funding in 2027 because the 2026 deadline was ‘‘too close’’ to complete an application.
Marie Jewett said Northup is also gathering materials to meet with potential donors. Jewett moved the expenditure, and Chair John Roleau seconded; the motion carried 5–0. The board did not set a funding target or timeline for starting construction, and members treated the vote as authorization to proceed with grant development work rather than a commitment of construction funds.
Next steps identified by the board include allowing Northup to compile materials and pursue federal grant opportunities. The board will consider any resulting grant awards, donor commitments, or required matching funds at a future meeting.
