Union representative urges renewal of millage to fund teacher pay increases

Mr. Vandenberg said the district was working to persuade voters to renew a 0.75-mill levy at 1.0 mill and that the extra 0.25 mill would be directed toward salary increases for teachers. He referenced the Teacher Salary Increase Allocation (TSIA) as an initial step and said local revenue would be necessary to supplement state funding and keep up with inflation. “That is why it is so important that come November when the 0.75 mill just try to be renewed at 1 mill for that additional 0.25 going towards salary increases for teachers,” he said.
The board did not take any immediate vote on millage at this meeting. Mr. Vandenberg asked the public to support outreach and said organizers were actively engaging to secure the needed local revenue for teacher raises.
