High school reports show J-term recovery for many students; new mental‑health counselor and recognition program announced

Tanner reported the high school's J-term outcomes and support plans, saying that when the semester ended there were 47 incomplete grades, and 33 of those were later improved to a passing score. "The 14 that didn't make it, like, most of that 14 was in a math course," Tanner said, and the district reworked the master schedule to reoffer Math 1A in a smaller classroom for those students.
Tanner also announced a new mental-health counselor at Yamhill Carlton High School, Jordan Ruiz, who will be available Tuesdays and Thursdays. He said the counselor is experienced across five different school settings and that students had already begun meeting with her.
Tanner described a new positive school-culture recognition program that allows teachers to send a message that notifies the student and their listed contacts when staff observe behaviors aligned with district values (commitment, integrity, compassion and resiliency); 33 recognition emails had already gone out during the program's first week. He credited staff for adapting schedules and noted the staff-led professional development on AI and teaching practices.
