The Mississippi House adopted a conference report on House Bill 14 88, adding a requirement that the University of Southern Mississippi, the Institutions of Higher Learning and community colleges file an annual report by October describing course content on financial literacy.
"They're gonna submit a report to us by October of each year, telling what each school is teaching and how they're teaching it," Representative Skagen said while explaining the conference report. The provision lists topics including personal budgeting, credit and debit, debt reporting, student loans, basic tax and investing.
Representative Skagen moved for final adoption; the clerk reported the result as "by vote, 121 yays, 0 nays," and the conference report was adopted. The change requires the annual reporting mechanism but does not itself prescribe curricular standards beyond the subjects to be reported. The House moved on to other conference reports after adoption.
