Council splits ditch-maintenance work to meet SLFR deadline; Sitter and A.P. & Sons win awards

Councilmember Mindy Rogers recommended awarding individual bid schedules to obtain lower costs and speed completion. The council voted to award bid schedules 1 and 2 to Sitter Excavating for a combined $125,000, contingent on Sitter agreeing to only those schedules and meeting a Nov. 1 completion; that motion passed 5-1, with Councilmember Josh Karels casting the lone no vote. A separate motion awarded schedules 3 and 4 to A.P. & Sons Construction for $164,000; company representative Justin Eccles accepted the award and waived mobilization fees; that motion passed 6-0.
Council discussion focused on balancing price with the SLFR deadline and contractor willingness to accept partial schedules. Administrator Steve Pendergrass reported that J&J Earth Works would only accept the contract if awarded all schedules, while A.P. & Sons could meet the Nov. 1 deadline and waive mobilization fees.
