DWR grant and community volunteers set stage for Steed Pond dock, May 16 event

The Clearfield Parks & Recreation Commission announced a grant from the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources to install a new dock at Steed Pond and outlined spring volunteer events including Arbor Day plantings and a May 16 clean-up and community event.
Parks Manager Jackie Wardle said the dock design will be similar to the Mabey Pond installation and that tree planting around the pond and trail will prioritize native species to improve survival rates. Wardle also noted that the city and DWR are coordinating sign design; DWR offered to cover about 50% of initial signage costs and recommended roughly four educational signs.
Visitor Trinity Larkin used the open comment period to thank the commission for responsiveness on pond issues and offered her organization’s continued support for future Steed Pond work. The commission circulated a sign-up sheet for an event committee that included local volunteer groups such as Wasatch Waders and the Utah Duck Network.
Arbor Day was tentatively scheduled for Friday, April 24, with participation expected from FFA students and local elementary schools. The commission reached consensus on May 16 as the date for the Steed Pond volunteer event. The commission encouraged community volunteers to register and participate.
