Nemaha County commissioners approved a purchase plan for a Motorola radio console that will tie county communications into the statewide system. Sheriff Brent Lottman briefed the board on negotiations that yielded a reduced price if the county pays upfront; the board directed staff to apply a $30,000 FY2016–2017 appropriation and to repay the Inheritance Fund advance from future budgets in $30,000 increments until the advance is repaid.
The purchase will modernize the county’s dispatching and field communications to match statewide radio standards; Lottman said Motorola offered financing but also a $10,000 discount for a cash purchase. "The Board was entering into executive session to prevent needless injury to an individual," minutes record for personnel discussions that came up during procurement briefings; the board that supported the purchase said reliable interoperable radio systems are a priority for public safety.
The board also authorized related service agreements and asked the sheriff to continue vendor negotiations and confirm installation and test dates before any final payment.
