Commissioners approved Resolution 2016‑40, which sets the county’s operating and capital plans for the coming year. The board also set the county’s final levy at $0.294248 under Resolution 2016‑41.
County Clerk Joyce Oakley said the process followed the required public notice and hearing schedule. The board emphasized capital spending for roads and bridge projects funded in part through state and federal programs, while holding most operating requests near current levels. Commissioner Marvin Bohling described the outcome as “a stable budget that continues county priorities while moderating tax asks.”
Adoption of the budget will fund routine operations, bridge and road programming, and a series of small and federal‑aid bridge projects planned for 2017. Commissioners and staff also discussed carryover funding sources and timing for several federally supported bridge contracts that permit Nemaha County to advance construction while matching funds are secured.
The next step after adoption is the county clerk’s publication of the budget notice and finalizing the county’s tax certification with state authorities. The board will revisit specific project budgets as federal awards and engineering estimates are finalized.
