Road crews start paving and county to consider resubmitting Straws Mill Road for federal funding

Road and Bridge reported that crews have started pavers this month, have been chip sealing, and completed an in-house water crossing that staff said they were proud of. "Looks like they did a real good job on it," staff said during the report.
The judge told the court an email from Congressman Carter's office said the Straws Mill Road community project — nominated previously by the county — was passed by the U.S. House but was not approved in the final funding package. The judge asked whether the county still wanted to submit the same project in the next cycle (FY2026 or FY2027); staff said they would follow up and meet to identify projects appropriate for SS4a funding, noting LMI and match requirements.
Staff also described a potential duplication of the Shoal Creek/Bald Knob project across FEMA and CDBG-MIT and said the county needs to decide whether to drop the project from an SS4a application or substitute another project because of match rules and prior approvals.
