Road commissioner warns of possible repeat pavement cracking on North and South streets

Road Commissioner Bruce Many reported that town roads are posted for spring and described recent field work and contractor consultations. He said he met with Mike Mullen of Pike Industries to inspect pavement cracking and heaving on North Street and South Street. According to the minutes, Mullen described the defects as "pressure cracks from when water gets under the pavement and freezes; it causes the pavement to bubble up and crack," and warned there is roughly a "50-50% chance" the cracking could recur after paving even if the town spends extra on reclamation.

The board discussed potential cost implications; minutes note Mullen also warned quoted paving prices could change due to fluctuating gas prices. Separately, the board recorded that RVG Electrical Services inspected lighting at the garage and sand/salt shed and that the crew has been working on the grader.
