School board advances draft coaching policy, sets review and notification timelines

The Chair opened the work session saying the board would continue discussion of a proposed coaching policy and asked whether members wanted to move forward with creating an evaluation process for coaches. "What we have in front of us here, for this work session, is to discussion on the proposed coaching policy," the Chair said.
Board members agreed there was no consistent district-wide evaluation in place and supported drafting specific hiring and evaluation language. A Committee member who circulated example rubrics urged the board to include evaluation tools such as anonymous athlete feedback and coach-input forms but warned these should be used to identify patterns rather than act on single complaints: "These are tools to look for patterns," the Committee member said.
Members endorsed core elements for the draft policy: hiring recommendations to come from a committee convened by the athletic director, continued assignments based on evaluation results and program needs, a post-season evaluation window and timely written documentation. The Chair said the edited policy will be forwarded to legal counsel for review and added to the agenda for first reading at the next board meeting.
