Council Chair Mike Elam opened the public hearing on Bill No. 5506 (CUP26-03). Robert Myers, Planning and Zoning Division Director, said the Planning and Zoning Commission had recommended approval 9-0 but Planning Division staff recommended denial because the venue is outdoors and the nearest residents are about 300 feet away with only a lake and landscaping as buffers.
Applicant Dan Lauderdale presented a site rendering and described the tent structure as a top-of-the-line, removable temporary tent. Lauderdale said he renovated nearby buildings to Class A and added buffers on his properties. Neighbors testified that they can already see and hear events from the site. Resident Bill Florence said his home is about 500 feet across the lake and that nighttime events would disrupt the peaceful nature of the area; John Vogel cited existing noise pollution from traffic, a shooting range and amplified speakers and raised sight-distance and safety concerns at the venue entrance onto HWY DD.
Council closed the public hearing and scheduled a vote on July 27, 2026. No final action was taken at this meeting.
