The board approved three memorandum-of-understanding items added to the agenda: $40,000 for Arkansas Teaching Corps training and certification supports, $60,000 to contract with ARESC Virtual Academy to supply certified special-education instruction virtually where local certification is lacking, and $27,000 for juvenile court services covering costs such as processing, drug testing and truancy handling. The superintendent explained the ARESC arrangement is intended to provide certified instruction remotely to rooms where staff are not specially certified.
Each MOU was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote without recorded opposition. Director Whitmore seconded at least one motion; the board recorded that the items exceeded approval thresholds and required board action.
