Principal Mark Marshall presented a Warrior Award to teacher Joy Burley and described her contributions to Warrenton Middle School. Marshall said Burley has “literally done all of that for now over 20 years,” highlighting her classroom techniques and leadership as an eighth-grade advisor. He noted her work taking students to events and volunteering at sports meets.
Marshall gave examples of Burley’s hands-on pedagogy and student support, saying she helps students “make history come alive” through costumed classroom activities and that she is “the first one in the school every day” and will “be there anytime you want her to be there.” The board recognized Burley with a small gift bag and public thanks. The presentation preceded two public-comment items later in the meeting.
