Candidate who narrowly failed ASWB exam urges provisional licensure, policy changes

Scott said she took the exam on July 2, 2025 and again on August 4, 2025 and fell short by five points on the first attempt; her LCSW‑S approval is set to expire in March 2026. In her written recommendations, Scott urged the Board to "greater consideration of professional experience and continuing education," to review whether the 20 unscored exam questions could be used to support borderline candidates, and to consider "a short‑term provisional license that could transition into full licensure upon satisfactory performance evaluations from employers." As Scott wrote, "The goal is not to dilute professional standards but to create equitable, effective, and sustainable ways for qualified individuals to meet pathways for licensure." The committee took public comment under advisement and cited Scott's testimony when discussing alternative pathways.
