Chewelah reports staffing gains, auditors on site and progress on campground and tree project

City Administrator Tonya Wallace delivered a multi-part operations and projects update during the June 3 regular meeting. She reported Public Works is fully staffed again; two sergeants from Everett and Spokane will provide training to the police department; and new officer Tyler Hunt is scheduled to graduate on June 9. Wallace also told council that the State Auditor is auditing fiscal years 2024–2025 and that campground visits have increased since the city began using CampSpot.
On projects, Wallace said city staff expect to test wells in two weeks, are awaiting Recreation and Conservation Office (RCO) feedback on the City Center Plaza Park first phase, and are completing a bid package for the Main Avenue Tree Project. She described progress on a pilot Food Truck Program as ongoing.
