Landowner urges county to move farm approach after bridge replacement; Hwy Supt. says timing unknown

At the Dec. 10 meeting, landowner Daryl Janssen told the McCook County Commission that replacement of bridge project #44-010-185 left drainage and erosion problems on his property and blocked his prior approach. Janssen said the new alignment forces him to drive on crop ground and asked the Board to move an approach down the hill to save his crop ground and to prevent erosion. He said the prior ditch was different and that he wanted a fence across the river. "I want an approach moved down the hill," Janssen said, adding later, "I'll be back."
Highway Superintendent Travis Raap explained that the bridge replacement had seven years of engineering and that the road was raised about seven feet; he noted guard rail cannot be installed until pavement is laid and that the county replaces fences while landowners supply materials. Commissioners said the Highway Department cannot finish work until dirt work is completed; Raap said the timing for when remaining work is done is unknown. The exchange was recorded in the minutes as a resident complaint and departmental response; no formal motion or resolution resulted from the discussion.
