Police chief reports 269 calls since June, wins foundation funding for tasers and cameras

Police Chief David Pernice updated the council on July activity and ongoing operational pressures, reporting 269 calls between June 1 and Aug. 13 — an average of roughly 3.63 calls per day — that included vehicle pursuits, protection-from-abuse cases, warrants, domestic incidents, drug activity, vandalism and burglary. Chief Pernice said some calls can occupy an entire shift; he cited one domestic call that lasted from about 8:50 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.
The chief said he and Officer Shelly attended an Alert Active Shooter training July 24–25 hosted by Millcreek PD and found it beneficial. He also told council he applied to the Union City Community Foundation for funding and the UCCF awarded two grants: one to purchase four tasers and a separate award to install security cameras covering an additional section of North Main Street.
