Board members signaled concern about budget pressure and aging buildings at the Feb. 9, 2026 meeting and directed Superintendent Brian Rentsch to work with administrators to develop multiple contingency plans.
Rentsch said the district must look at options to save money and "possibly consolidate buildings" in light of the financial forecast, the buildings and grounds report and a capital plan review. Mrs. Host, Ms. Campbell and Mrs. Grandison agreed the district needs alternative plans beyond the millage reallocation and directed Rentsch to prepare Plan B and Plan C plus 1-, 3-, 5- and 7-year capital plans for each building that could include a potential closure.
The district did not vote on closures or take any formal direction to close specific schools at this meeting; the board’s action was a directive to staff to produce options for future consideration. The board also paired the consolidation discussion with facilities issues and a separately authorized bid process for the high school's fire alarm replacement.
