Claymont board approves new start and end times for 2026–27 school year

The Claymont City School District Board of Education on April 13 approved new daily start and end times for the 2026–2027 school year after discussing transportation and after‑school activity needs. The board recorded the vote after a motion by Mrs. Host and a second by Ms. Campbell.
Superintendent Brian Rentsch said the schedule change followed a conversation with Transportation and Cafeteria Supervisor Eric Henry about bussing logistics. The adopted times are: High School 7:40–2:40; Middle School 7:50–2:50; Elementary 8:05–3:05; Primary 8:15–3:15. The board’s minutes state the decision will “see how it goes” using the new start and end times for the upcoming year.
The change had previously been pulled for separate consideration from the consent agenda and was moved to a standalone vote. The board did not attach additional qualifying conditions to the approval. The district will implement the new bell schedule starting in fall 2026 and monitor transportation impacts reported by staff.
