Sweetwater County commissioners unanimously approved a biennial contract with the Wyoming Judicial Branch providing $439,669 in total funding for the county’s Treatment Court program. HR Director Gary McLean, who presented the item after it was added to the agenda, said the amount is for the two-year biennium and that dividing the total yields the annual amounts the county can expect. He described the program as targeting ‘‘chronic substance abuse offenders’’ and estimated the program is serving about 40 participants at present, noting demand likely exceeds currently available funding.
McLean said the county supplements the state contract with existing treatment-court funds, opioid funding from the cities of Rock Springs and Green River, and planned county opioid funding applications; he also raised the possibility of pursuing private donations or maintaining a 501(c)(3) foundation to support the program if needed. The board approved the contract and authorized the chairman to sign.
