County engineer outlines intersection safety work, bioswale cleanout, equipment repairs and paving schedule

County Engineer Brandon gave an update on a range of road-safety and maintenance items, including an intersection flagged in the county safety action plan, ditch and bioswale cleanouts, speed studies and equipment repairs.
Brandon said the safety action plan identified a local intersection as high risk and described prior fixes: additional warning signs and a rumble strip had been installed but motorists bypass the rumble strip by entering the oncoming lane. "We had our safety action plan come through and that was one of the intersections identified as the high risk," he said, and he is reviewing further solutions that could include changes to traffic flow or more substantial engineering work. He also described planned ditching and bioswale cleanouts to address drainage issues, the county's second dust-control application and routine grading work, and noted repair needs for a dump truck transmission and mowers that have delayed operations.
Brandon said staff will continue speed studies where requested and that the county has access to a radar detection unit to assist with speed-limit reviews. He told the board he will return with more detailed recommendations on the high-risk intersection and with updates on equipment repairs and project sequencing for upcoming paving work.
