Resident suggests moving boat launch, creating trailhead at Tanners Lake

At open forum, John Parnell, who identified himself as a supporter of the Tanners Lake project, proposed relocating the existing boat launch across the lake to separate motorized and non-motorized uses. Parnell said moving the motorized launch to a site adjacent to the interstate would reduce boat traffic in residential neighborhoods and provide parking and potential commercial opportunities for vendors near the new launch.
"If the city retains those 2 or 3 lots, what's to say you can't take the boat launch that's there now and move it across the water? Let's do a couple of things. 1, you make it into a motorized one... and then the old boat launch you turn it into kayaks, paddle boards, canoes," Parnell said. He also recommended pursuing MnDOT funding by making the area a trailhead that connects to other parks. The mayor and council thanked Parnell for the suggestion; no formal action was taken during the meeting.
