Commissioner Bleak praises first responders after crashes and Sawmill fire

Bleak described responders rushing toward difficult scenes and assisting victims and families; he said the teamwork of fire departments, EMS, and law enforcement was "really very inspiring." He recounted one incident where a flight nurse happened upon a crash at Yankee Meadow and helped stabilize a patient before a helicopter evacuation.
Bleak also reported that the Sawmill fire grew quickly to roughly 4,000 acres but that crews had secured good lines and had it about 15% contained at the time of the meeting. He thanked road department staff and mutual-aid partners for their assistance and noted active tanker refueling operations in support of suppression efforts.
