Public Works reports road projects and landfill trends; 2026 tonnage below 2025

Bruce Anderson, Iron County Public Works, updated the commission on multiple road maintenance and construction activities, including material bidding, a Gold Springs survey, chip sealing the Buckhorn frontage from Hwy 20 to Paragonah, planned skim patching on Old Highway 91, and upcoming chipping work in Kanarraville and Newcastle. He said future projects include chip-and-maintain work on Cedar Mountain and countywide dirt roads; crushing at the Parowan Landfill is complete with additional crushing planned in the fall from Summit to the Gap.
On waste operations, Anderson reported that landfill tonnage has been roughly consistent but slightly lower than 2025 levels: "In 2025, there were 48,304 tons, and in 2026, there were 45,567 tons." He said metal recyclers are at the landfill with approximately 600 tons to recycle and that tire recyclers are expected this month. He noted equipment is working and the budget is on track.
