Oakdale approves $99,000 in added shade features for Willowbrook Fields

Councilors approved added shade features for Willowbrook Fields, selecting two alternates that together add $99,000 to the project scope. Public Works Director Corey Tietz said staff recommended alternate A (two 10x20 shade umbrellas on the east side of the soccer field, ~$41,000) and alternate B (two additional 10x20 umbrellas and enlargement of an existing volleyball umbrella) for a combined cost of $99,000.
"Staff is recommending that the council accept add alternate 1 for the shade features at the pickleball court as well as add alternate b at an additional cost of $99,000," Tietz said. A council member moved to approve the alternates as part of City Project P2025-02 and the motion passed by voice vote. Tietz told the council the overall project balance would remain within budget after this selection.
The additional features expand shade coverage across multiple athletic spaces and follow earlier council direction to prioritize shade after community feedback; staff said the city remains within its total project appropriation.
