Chamber proposes voluntary motel fee and joint plan with Kennebunkport to ease tourist pressure

Laura Dolce, representing the KK&A Chamber of Commerce, told the Economic Development Committee that the Chamber has been discussing a joint destination-management approach with nearby Kennebunkport to broaden visitor options. Dolce described a funding idea: a voluntary, time-limited fee paid by motels for marketing aimed at distributing visitor demand across additional attractions.
"A special fee, with a fixed life, voluntarily paid by local motels, could be used for marketing aimed at tourists in the area," Dolce said. Committee members raised the prospect of an EDC subcommittee to explore whether the town should support or facilitate the plan and to examine legal and administrative details before any implementation.
