Resident says house flooded seven times; urges DeRidder to fix drainage

Sarah Stanton, a resident of the county road outside DeRidder, told the council that her family's home at 1688 Ernest Drive flooded seven times between April 24 and June 26 and that the flooding left two bedrooms unusable. "Between April 24 and June 26, my dad's house here has flooded a total of 7 times," Stanton said, recounting multiple attempts earlier in the year to have the tracks and drainage cleared.
Stanton said she and her father had been redirected among agencies and changing staff contacts before Mayor Harris and city personnel later visited the property and scheduled work that either did not occur or was only partially completed. She requested that the drainage be corrected "before the ground gets wet too wet again to do anything this winter," and the presiding officer acknowledged the concern and asked staff to follow up.
