Staff reported that the Timothy Road multiuse path project is in the land-acquisition phase, stretching from Skyline Drive toward Rhodes Drive and the Macon Highway corridor. Staff said land acquisition is expected to complete in 2026 and the project was targeted for a winter 2026 completion, although commissioners questioned whether concrete will be down by that timeline.
"This starts at Skyline Drive and continues down to, I believe, Rhodes Drive... and it's currently listed at winter of 2026 for completion," a staff presenter said, while several commissioners called that schedule unlikely and noted delays typical during utility coordination, right-of-way work and bidding. Staff explained the typical sequence: land acquisition, final design, procurement and then construction staging once a contract is awarded.
Commissioners and staff noted that utility coordination and property-owner negotiations can add 90-day windows and slow progress; staff said these phases are often confidential and that the department frequently provides status updates of acquisition as green/yellow/red indicators. Staff committed to follow up about specific timeline certainty and will update commissioners if dates change.
