Officials say MUSC pump-station upfit due within about 18 months; pump/stormwater work complements Battery extension

Panelists described the MUSC pump-station upfit as a complementary project to the Battery extension’s surge protection: Lt. Col. Todd Mannering said the Corps is "trying to increase capacity to move stormwater inside the perimeter out," and added construction for that project is likely within about 18 months.
Mannering and Mayor Cogswell also discussed brick-arches rehabilitation and other stormwater conveyance work intended to move rainwater and tidal inflows out to the harbor. The Corps said some projects slowed while receiving additional funding but that the extra resources will improve outcomes, and city officials said they aim to coordinate flood-barrier and stormwater investments so solutions work in concert rather than in isolation.
